Andrew began playing at the Boylston Chess Club in 2009. Haley began playing in August 2023 as a relative beginner, but threw herself into the game and club. Andrew and Haley played one classical game in July 2024. After a few inaccurate moves by Haley in the middle game, Andrew had a devastating attack and material gains.
Between playing and volunteering at the club, we were able to get to know each other as more than chess players. Our first date was on October 6, 2024 at the Arnold Arboretum where time flew by as we walked and talked for five hours straight.
The first time Andrew met Mary and John was at the Museum of Science, where we had a great afternoon. We went out for ice cream afterwards, and John made sure to feed Andrew some of his ice cream! The kids enjoyed getting to meet "one of mama's friends from the chess club."
From there, the story tells itself. We spent our important moments and holidays together, and Haley and the kids moved into Andrew's home in Boston the following summer. Our wedding is official declaration of what we already knew: we want to spend the rest of our lives together as a beautiful family.
